An Entropy-Based Model for Basal Ganglia Dysfunctions in Movement Disorders
نویسندگان
چکیده
During this last decade, nonlinear analyses have been used to characterize the irregularity that exists in the neuronal data stream of the basal ganglia. In comparison to linear parameters for disparity (i.e., rate, standard deviation, and oscillatory activities), nonlinear analyses focus on complex patterns that are composed of groups of interspike intervals with matching lengths but not necessarily contiguous in the data stream. In light of recent animal and clinical studies, we present a review and commentary on the basal ganglia neuronal entropy in the context of movement disorders.

Non-Linear Dynamics in Parkinsonism
Over the last 30 years, the functions (and dysfunctions) of the sensory-motor circuitry have been mostly conceptualized using linear modelizations which have resulted in two main models: the "rate hypothesis" and the "oscillatory hypothesis." In these two models, the basal ganglia data stream is envisaged as a random temporal combination of independent simple patterns issued from its probabilit...
متن کاملA Grey Box Neural Network Model of Basal Ganglia for Gait Signal of Patients with Huntington Disease
Introduction: Huntington disease (HD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease which affects movement control system of the brain. HD symptoms lead to patient’s gait change and influence stride time intervals. In this study, we present a grey box mathematical model to simulate HDdisorders. This model contains main physiological findings about BG. Methods: We used artificial n...

The outbreak of the post-streptococcal neurological disorders related to the antibasal ganglia antibodies is broadening. In addition to the disorders such as chorea and obsessive-compulsive disorder which have been recognized previously, the movement and behavioral abnormalities are the other aspects of post-streptococcal neurological disorders. Streptococcus is a positive-gram and coccus...
متن کاملNeurophysiology of gait for understanding basal ganglia motor disorders - from animal behaviors to the constructive approach -
We elucidated substrates for the execution of normal gait and to understand pathophysiological mechanisms of gait failure in basal ganglia dysfunctions. In Parkinson’s disease, volitional and emotional expressions of movement processes are seriously affected in addition to the disturbance of automatic movement processes, such as adjustment of postural muscle tone and rhythmic limb mov...
متن کاملHand Movement Improvement on Visual Target Tracking by Model-based Compensator
Brain dysfunction in the cerebral cortex, cerebellum and/or basal ganglia causes serious movement disorders such as cerebellar ataxia, Parkinson disease and so on. Compensation of hand movement by adding an external force will recover the motor function and will be helpful for improving the quality of patients’ daily life. This paper proposes a method for compensating human hand movement on vis...
